Great Highs in Tad Lo

From Savannakhet we got the bus to Pakse. We suddenly started to see considerably more foreigners there even though is wasn't the largest of towns, but discovered that all the locals seem to steer clear of the central strip and head down to the riverbank. We ate some lovely local dishes at one of these places lit up like a Christmas Tree and had a nice stroll back into town. Not really too much to blog about Pakse, cause we weren't here for that. We were here as it's the gateway to a place called Tad Lo.

And you go to Tad Lo for these:

We arrived there on Sean's 33rd birthday. He is now ancient and I think starting to decay ;)
So I spent the phenomenal amount of 15 pounds on him as a treat and we got ourselves the loveliest little cabin on the banks of the waterfall, ate lunch at the resort's posh restaurant with views of the waterfall and then got very drunk on Beer Lao at Mama Pap's place! Lucky boy I say!

We also ran into a chap called Sam that we'd travelled with on our bus journey from Bagan to Yangon back in Myanmar. He'd met up with his girlfriend, Lucy, who turned out to be a hoot and so we spent both our evenings in Tad Lo with them eating sticky rice in the shape of hearts (Mama Pap was very grateful for our business) and the most wonderful Laap you've ever tasted!

We had a lovely time exploring the waterfalls. I also discovered here just how marvellous my camera really is:

Things Jennie will remember:
1) The crazy bug that managed to pull the most enormous dead spider across the path to eat it

2) Sean getting to know the cows from our second guest house which overlooked a field of them

3) That when in new countries, you always, always need a flag ;)

Here are the pics:
